By Francis Taylor, Executive Editor

The 10th and 11th Avenue Block Club Party, held on Saturday, August 16th, on Hardy Street, between 10th Avenue & 11th Avenue, was a huge success and featured a free taco truck, a live band, games, raffles, giveaways and a visit by a special guest, Mayor James T.Butts.

Desean Coleman, who has been President of the 10th and 11th Avenue Block Club for over one year, revitalized the club that had been inactive since before the COVID outbreak. He said the club, which is situated in the 1st Council District, consists of 128 homes, is represented by Inglewood Council Member Gloria Gray, who has been very responsive to the needs of her constituents. He also thanked Mayor Butts for taking the time to visit the party and share a few words with those in attendance. He explained that the motto of the Block Club is equity, community and unity.

Mayor Butts welcomed everyone to the block Club party and gave an overview of his progressively more responsible public service jobs, which began at the age of 17 when he joined the Inglewood Police Department as a cadet and eventually landed him in position as the mayor of the City of Inglewood. He charted the improvement the city has realized from near bankruptcy when he assumed the position to now being recognized as one of the jewels of the South Bay.

Entertainment was provided by the Stephen Hines Band and free tacos were provided byJuanita and Arturo from Jenny’s Tacos.
