Southern University student killed, another injured in shooting on Government Street in BR

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A 19-year-old has died, and another person is injured following an apparent drive-by shooting in Baton Rouge.
The shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Monday, September 1, near the Smoothie King at the corner of Government St. at S. Foster Drive.
Police identified the victim who died as Roderick Forkner, 19, a sophomore at Southern University.
The second victim suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the gunfire caused the victims to crash into a sign at the Smoothie King.

A vehicle was stopped at a traffic light when a second car pulled up alongside the first vehicle, police said. Gunfire can then be seen coming from the first vehicle.
Police pulled crime scene tape around the Smoothie King parking lot as well as a portion of the pumps at the Circle K on the other side of S. Foster Dr.

On scene, you could see where bullets pierced holes into the door to the driver’s side of a car. That car has since been towed from the scene.
