The Southern California newspaper community has lost one of its own. Willie Brown, founder and owner of Inglewood Today weekly newspaper died on June 25 at Cedar Sinai Hospital after an emergency visit.
Brown, with whom South Bay Black Journal Publisher Kenneth Miller partnered for 4 years, was a stakeholder in the City of Inglewood where he moved decades ago after leaving his native Louisiana roots.

His loss is a tremendous blow to both the City of Inglewood and both the National Newspapers Publishers Association and California Black Media for which Inglewood Today was a member.
“When I returned to Los Angeles after being in Cleveland for four years, Willie Brown convinced me to join him at Inglewood Today as its publisher at a time when I was at a considering leaving the industry. He trusted me with his “baby” Inglewood Today, while mentoring me and was an extremely important person in my life. I will miss him, and do whatever I am ask to keep his legacy alive,” said SBBJ Publisher Kenneth Miller, in a statement.
More information pending services and celebrations will follow.
