TURNER CALLS ON GLORIA GRAY TO WITHDRAW FROM WEST BASIN RACE
ATTORNEY GENERAL GREENLIGHTS LAWSUIT OVER HER TWO OFFICES
INGLEWOOD, CA — Tyron D. Turner called on Gloria Gray to withdraw from the race for West Basin Municipal Water District, Division 2, one day after California Attorney General Rob Bonta authorized a lawsuit challenging her right to sit on the West Basin Board and the Inglewood City Council at the same time.
The call comes as families across the district are paying the price for Gray’s two decades on the board: West Basin’s water rates have skyrocketed 284% since she took office.
“Gloria Gray should withdraw from this race,” Turner said. “She is a career politician who has spent decades in elected office, and she knows better than anyone that the right thing to do is to step aside. She is asking voters for another term in an office the Attorney General says she may not be legally entitled to hold. That is not fair to the people of this district, and it is not fair to ask them to gamble with their drinking water. Voters deserve better.”
“Protecting drinking water isn’t a side gig,” Turner continued. “It’s a full-time job that everyday working people depend on you to do. You can’t do it with one foot in City Hall and the other at the water board.”
Turner said he hears what’s at stake every day on the campaign trail.
“For weeks I’ve been walking these neighborhoods, knocking on doors, and listening,” he said. “People tell me they can’t afford their water bill. They tell me they buy bottled water because they don’t trust what comes out of the tap.”
“I understand, because I’m living it too. I’ve had dirty water coming out of the faucets in my own home, here in Inglewood, where I’m raising my family. I know what it’s like to turn on the tap and wonder what’s coming out. No family should have to live with that.”
“That’s why this is the only office I’m running for, and the only one I want,” Turner said. “I’m not jumping from political office to political office, like my opponent. I am 100% focused and committed to providing your family with clean, safe, and affordable drinking water.”
