LOS ANGELES — Spectrum teamed up with media company Revolt and the Los Angeles Urban League for a music production masterclass in South LA.
The masterclass highlighted how accessible music creation can be today — with Wi-Fi and simple software, artists can record and produce from anywhere, no fancy studio required. The workshop was facilitated by six-time Grammy Award-winning producer Derrick Milano.
California state Sen. Lola Smallwood-Cuevas was in attendance. She recently helped fight for $2.5 million in funding for the Historic South LA Black cultural district.
“It’s critically important for us to look at ways to double down on culture, to double down on the workforce that is connected to culture and art, and to make sure that this region continues to be a place where economic development and opportunity happens,” Smallwood-Cuevas said.
In addition, Spectrum presented president andCEO of the Los Angeles Urban League Cynthia Mitchell-Heard with a $25,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant to support their digital literacy programming.
“If people are not exposed to the intricacies and the importance of bridging the digital divide, people will be left behind and we cannot tolerate that,” said Mitchell-Heard.
