HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s basketball team will return to action to take on Southern Miss Friday at 6 p.m. in the University Center.

SLU suffered its first defeat of the season with a 78-68 loss to No. 23 Nebraska on the road. Senior guard Alexius Horne led all scorers with 24 points, five assists and seven rebounds. Nicholls transfer Lexi Alexander also contributed double-digit scoring from 7-12 shooting with 14 points and seven rebounds. Southeastern gained the upper hand with 40 points in the paint and 23 points off Nebraska’s 15 turnovers.

The Lady Lions are seeking to bounce back at home for its third non-conference contest of the season with the help of Horne with 19.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds. Alexander (11.5 ppg), Cheyanne Daniels (11.5 ppg), Taylor Bell (10.0 ppg), and Arianna Patton (8.0 ppg) are also big contributors for a Southeastern squad that averages 73.5 points per game.

Southern Miss secured a 66-47 victory over William Carey Monday evening led by Nyla Jean with 23 points, four rebounds and two steals. Jean finished the game shooting 8-13 from the field and 3-6 from the three-point line. Southern Miss gained 40 bench points, 34 points in the paint and 27 fast break points against William Carey. Jean is a part of the Golden Eagle’s dynamic duo alongside Melyia Grayson that has efficiently produced for Southern Miss this season. Grayson leads the team with 24.0 points per game and 5.0 rebounds to dominate in the paint, followed by Jean averaging 12.0 points per game and 4.0 assists. Senior guard Bre Sutton is also a weapon for the Golden Eagles leading the team on the boards with 8.0 rebounds per game and 10.0 points.

Friday’s game will honor senior Arianna Patton as the Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive trading cards featuring the player courtesy of PRIDE. Fans are encouraged to come out and support as the Lady Lions honor the brave men and women who have served our country. All veterans and active military will receive free admission to the game.

Following Friday’s game, Southeastern will be back on the road traveling to Memphis, Tenn. to face the Memphis Tigers Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN+.
