Intuit Dome to host LAUSD Title Games

Kenneth Miller, owner and publisher of South Bay Black Journal, and veteran public address announcer has been selected by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to serve as the public address announcer for the LAUSD girls and boys middle school championships at the Intuit Dome on Nov. 3.

Trenton Cornelius, IAD Coordinator and Interscholastic Athletic Department member for LAUSD, contacted Miller on Oct. 28 to offer him the assignment.

“Before Trent could even tell me what the assignment was, I confirmed,” said Miller laughing. “First and foremost, it was Tent to make the request and second and equally important was it was the LAUSD, kids and basketball which I all love.”

Miller is no stranger to big arenas or championship events, having served as public address announcer for Jordan Brand All American Games, events at UCLA Pauley Pavilion and many others including Los Angeles City Section Championships during a career that spans more than four decades.

Additionally, he is the founder and director of the annual Collision All Star Games which honors senior girls and boys representing the CIF Southern Section and Los Angeles City Section since 1999, respectively.

The boy’s championship game will be played at 2:40 p.m. and the girls will tip at 4:05 p.m., prior to the Clippers hosting the Miami Heat for which the student athletes and their families will receive complimentary tickets.

Clipper owner Steve Balmer made it his commitment to have the Intuit Dome inclusive of local basketball championships and games on the high school and collegiate level, a rarity for Los Angeles based professional basketball teams.

[Editors Note: Kenneth Miller was graduated from LAUSD’s Fremont High School in Los Angeles and was was inducted in the the Hall of Fame as Sports Announcer]
