Southeastern Suffers 1-0 Defeat at Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana University women’s soccer team continued its six-game road swing with a 1-0 loss Friday evening at A.W. Mumford Stadium.
 
Southeastern (1-3-0) underwent a disappointing loss after falling behind early, but kept the Jaguars (1-3-0) off the board for the remainder of the contest.
 
SLU was unable to connect with 10 shots on target. The Lady Lions were able to collect five saves with majority of the effort coming from goalkeeper Olivia Griffin.
 
Southern capitalized off a strong start. Gia Johnson scored their first goal of the season off an assist from Taylor Henry around the 17th minute to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead.
 
Southern goalkeeper Sydney Bellamy played all 90 minutes of the match and contributed 10 saves to secure their win.
 
Southeastern will return to action Sunday, traveling to Arkansas State for a 1 p.m. contest. Sunday’s match will be televised live on ESPN+.
