Chargers to play in HOFG

The Los Angeles Chargers will play in the Hall of Fame Game against the Detroit
Lions. Kickoff from Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, is slated for 5:00 p.m. PT.
Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth and Melissa Stark have the call on NBC, while Matt
“Money” Smith, Daniel Jeremiah and Shannon Farren will broadcast on the Chargers
Radio Network airwaves on KFI AM-640 as well as on SiriusXM 81 or 225 and on the
SiriusXM app. Adrian Garcia-Marquez and Francisco Pinto will present the game in
Spanish, simulcast on Estrella TV and on Que Buena FM 105.5/94.3.
Los Angeles was selected to play in the contest to honor tight end Antonio Gates
— the all-time leader for touchdown receptions by a tight end (116). He one of four
individuals who will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame on Sat., Aug. 2. Gates spent the
entirety of his 16-year career with the Chargers after signing as an undrafted free
agent in 2003, ranking as the franchise’s all-time leader in career receptions (955),
receiving yards (11,841) and touchdown catches (116) and second all-time in regular
season games played (220). His 21 multi-touchdown games, 39 touchdown grabs on
third down and eight seasons with at least eight receiving scores are also the most
in history by a tight end.
The Chargers last played in the Hall of Fame Game in 1994 against Atlanta, a season
that saw the Bolts go 11-5 and win the AFC to appear in Super Bowl XXIX. The game
marks the third time the Bolts are scheduled to play in the Hall of Fame Game, with
the first time being in 1980, when the game against Green Bay was stopped in the
fourth quarter due to severe thunder and lightning.
The Chargers will host the New Orleans Saints on Sun., Aug. 10 and then play the
Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sat., Aug. 16. The preseason slate wraps on
Sat., Aug. 16 in San Francisco against the 49ers.
