Mobile Classroom to Provide Early Learning Activities, Books and Learning Materials to Rural Children
and Families in Evangeline, Jefferson Davis, Natchitoches, Red River and St. Landry Parishes
OPELOUSAS, La. (Sept. 24, 2024) – Save the Children Head Start is launching a new mobile classroom
and early learning bus at a Tuesday, Sept. 24 ribbon-cutting ceremony in Opelousas, which will be
meeting rural kids and families where they are with early learning activities, books and learning
materials in Evangeline, Jefferson Davis, Natchitoches, Red River and St. Landry Parishes. The bus will
be providing early learning opportunities to preschool-age kids not attending preschool, helping
ensure they have the skills and supplies they need to be ready for kindergarten.
Save the Children Head Start is dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education to rural
kids and families across southern Louisiana. Head Start and Early Head Start are federally-funded
programs that offer comprehensive services to low-income families with children ages birth to 5,
including early education, health and social-emotional support, and family engagement.
Currently, Save the Children Head Start operates Head Start and Early Head Start programs in rural
communities in five states – Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Tennessee. For more
