Where to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in Southern California this weekend – San Bernardino Sun

Date:

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is considered the most important festival of the year in India.

The typically five-day festival is widely celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists in India and across the world, usually in late October or early November depending on the Hindu lunar calendar. Communities come together to enjoy big feasts, festive lights, colorful fireworks and rangoli displays, and cultural customs depending on the region or religion.

Diwali — derived from “Deepavali,” which translates to a “row of lights” — celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

Here are some events across the southland honoring the Diwali tradition.
