Welcome back to “What’s Up with Anuolu.” As we enter the last month of summer, I’d like us to reflect on our summer experiences and take in the natural beauty that our beautiful city has to offer. Despite the recent hurricane that LA experienced for the first time since 1933, nature might seem daunting, leading us to avoid it at all costs. However, Los Angelenos are blessed with a unique landscape that enables residents to relish a diverse range of natural scenery, from the mountains and valleys to the beaches and farms. This state truly offers an abundance that can be utilized to pause and realign ourselves.
Following the rainfall, nature flourished and bloomed, akin to a second spring. The verdure adorning the mountains and the sprouting plants along trails and hikes served as a captivating reminder to venture outdoors and craft new memories. With the final month of summer on the horizon, it’s an opportune time to gather friends and family for beach outings, picturesque picnics, bonfires, leisurely trail walks, or more extensive day-long hikes that necessitate ample snacks and hydration.
Throughout this summer, I immersed myself in the embrace of nature as much as possible. Having been fortunate to reside in the San Fernando Valley for approximately 6 years, I frequented the various extensive mountains for daily hikes. I followed a scenic route that eventually led me to Malibu Beach, where I not only savored the journey but also relished the breathtaking beach. Numerous nearby parks with charming trails became my destinations, and I discovered the significance of daily sunlight exposure. For me, a nature walks or hike surpassed workouts at the gym. Weekly beach visits and daily morning hikes became my routines. Consequently, upon returning to the city, it was effortless to reintegrate into the hustle culture, thereby overlooking the beauty within my very own backyard.
This summer, I’ve revisited Kenneth Hahn Park, particularly during Walk Good’s Sunday yoga sessions. Practicing yoga amidst nature alongside kindred spirits rejuvenates my soul. You can follow their Instagram account @walkgoodLA. They also host a monthly sunset yoga class at Dockweiler Beach, offering a serene commencement to the week. I sincerely hope everyone gets the chance to partake in this session.
Considering our roles as natives in this bustling city entwined in our daily grind, I am steadfast in my belief that nature possesses the ability to heal and replenish our bodies. It serves as a reminder that the master creator, God, crafted this beauty for us to revel in, find solace through prayer, and nourish our souls. Whenever possible, venture outdoors and embrace the nature that lies right in our backyard. Allocate time to take the children outdoors, enabling them to disconnect from their devices for a while. Breathe in the fresh air, savoring its scent. May your week be splendid, and I hope you discover a means to bask in the outdoors.
