Recently they both discussed the mega fight between Errol Spence, Jr. and Terrance Crawford scheduled for Saturday July 29, 2023 at T- Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.]
What’s up Pee Wee?
We, Punch, I know you have a strong opinion on the fight, but I don’t know, I’m kinda torn. I know that Spence is the bigger of the two, he’s built like a middleweight but Bud is so athletic and I think that his athleticism will prove to be the difference in this fight.
Pee Wee if this fight would have happened a few years ago, you would probably be right. The fact that it’s happening when Crawford is 35.
The list of fighters who were still dominant at 35 is a rare group: Floyd Mayweather defeated Miguel Cotto before he turned 35; Sergio Martinez was very good up until age 38; Juan Manuel Marquez was awesome until 39; Wladimir Klitschko was undefeated through age 36; and Carl Froch was an outstanding middleweight at 35.
The question that remains to be answered is; Can Crawford handle Spence power?
Yeah, I see where you coming from, but Bud has the ability to throw punches in bunches from a lot of angles. He is a counter puncher and that does concern me a bit, but I have yet to see anybody hit him and hurt him.
Which is why I think Spence will stop him!
Puncho, you can’t be serious?
I am serious!
What? By knock out or TKO, what are you talking about?
I’d say by TKO in the second half of the fight.
Well, he did break Yordenis Ugas orbital bone in their April 2022 unification fight that ended in a 10th-round TKO. But man, Puncho you think Spence can do that to Bud?
I do!
Yeah, man this is really a throw back fight. I’m not sure it reminds of any of them because these two guys personalities are different. They are just straight and cut fighters. You know they will both be ready to fight and I can’t wait to see it!
Pee Wee, you right. It is a throwback fight and it’s a fight that boxing purist like you love to see, but I am always a concerned if it could be a stinker and I don’t see that in this.
Spence will likely jump on Bud right out the gate to prevent him from getting into any type of rhythm because once he’s into the flow of the fight, he can execute his game plan to perfection.
But I am still pulling for Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KO).
I’m sticking with Terrance Crawford (39-0, 30 KO), he’s the top Pound for Pound fighter for a reason.
Correct! The reason is he was with Top Rank which is a partner to ESPN which does that list. Terrance Crawford is NOT the Pound for Pound best fighter in the world off that resume.
Ok, we go see what happens Saturday night on Pay Per View.
