Tyron Turner Announces Candidacy for West Basin Water District, Division 2 With Strong Endorsements from Trusted Elected Leaders
INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Tyron Turner announced his candidacy for the West Basin Water District Board of Directors, Division 2, launching his campaign with support from a broad coalition of trusted elected leaders across the region.
Turner enters the contest with backing of longtime trusted elected leaders: State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas, State Senator Lena Gonzalez, Assemblymember Tina McKinnor, Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, Inglewood Mayor James Butts, former Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, former Assemblymember Autumn Burke, former Gardena Mayor Rachel Johnson, Hawthorne Councilmember Katrina Manning, Inglewood Councilmember Alex Padilla, Inglewood Councilmember Eloy Morales Jr., Carson Councilmember Jawane Hilton, Gardena Councilmember Dr. Mark Henderson, WRD Directors Joy Langford and Robert Katherman, and former West Basin Water District Board Member Carol Kwan.
“Tyron has been fighting for environmental justice his whole life,” said former Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke. “I’m proud to endorse him for West Basin Water District 2.”
“Tyron Turner understands that every community deserves safe, affordable drinking water,” said former Assemblymember Autumn Burke. “I’m proud to stand with him for West Basin Water District 2.”
“I’m honored to have the support of trusted leaders who have spent their careers fighting for this community,” said Turner. “This district deserves a water board member who will fight for them, ask the hard questions, reduce water rates and never lose sight of who we’re accountable to: the ratepayers in this community.
“If elected, I will fight to deliver clean, safe, and affordable water to the residents of West Basin Water District Division 2.” said Turner. “I look forward to sharing my vision for a cleaner and more affordable water future for our families, our businesses, our community and all the residents of West Basin Water District Division 2.”
About Tyron Turner: Tyron Turner is longtime Inglewood resident and proud SEIU Local 2015 member. He currently serves as a Community Water Advisor under WRD Director Joy Langford and has a strong record of civic engagement including service on the AQMD advisory group and as an elected neighborhood council representative and Democratic delegate. Turner holds a
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, after beginning his education at Southwest Community College. He is running to deliver clean, safe, affordable drinking water and keep water rates as low as possible for the communities of Inglewood, Hawthorne, and the surrounding West Basin Division 2 service area.
