Southern University hosting free men’s health luncheon

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – June is National Men’s Health Month. The Southern University Agriculture Center is encouraging men to take care of their bodies mentally and physically.

Family and Consumer Sciences Program Leader, Dr. Krystle Allen, stopped by and spoke with Fox 44 on Wednesday morning. Allen said, “we are trying to create a culture in Louisiana to have men engage in preventative health care, raise awareness, but just more so making sure they are making those regular appointments.”

The Ag Center, in partnership with the All of Us Research Program, is hosting a free men’s health luncheon with the theme, “Navigating the Journey to Wellness.”

It will be on Thursday, June 8 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. in the Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union on the campus of Southern University.

Topics that will be covered during the event include mental health, cardiology, gastro, and general men’s health. Speakers will include James Wayne, M.D.; Aldo Russo, M.D.; Garland Green, M.D.; and Marlon Boutin.
