Ten South Bay basketball teams qualified for the CIF Southern California Regional basketball tournament led by Redondo Union and Westchester’s boys which earned No. 3 and No. 2 seeds in Division 1 and Division 2, respectively.

Redondo Union head coach Reggie Morris, Jr. anticipated that his squad which won two games in the most competitive Open Division would receive a high seed and it did.

Now the Seahawks will have to do something with it beginning on March 2nd at home against Pacific Christian.

Meanwhile, fresh off their CIF Los Angeles City Section upset of top seed Chatsworth, the Comets led by junior sensation Tajh Ariza will play at home against No. 15 seed La Jolla Country Day.

Mira Costa (No.7), Palos Verdes (No.8) and Rolling Hills Prep (No. 9) girls were the other South Bay single digit seeds in the Tournament. Palos Verdes will play host to Rolling Hills Prep in a Division 2 confrontation.

CIF Los Angeles City Open Division runner-up No. 15 seed Westchester girls received the worst of the draws being placed in the rugged Division 1 bracket and will travel to No. 2 seed Sage Hill, the school impacted by the Kobe Bryant helicopter tragedy where players on their team succumbed.

Bishop Montgomery girls is the No. 6 seed in the girls Open Division and will play at No. 3 Mater Dei, while No. 15 seed North Torrance will visit No. 2 seed Winward in Division 1.

Gardena Serra which returned to prominence by reaching the CIF-Southern Section Division 4-AA title game where it failed to Tesoro 59-46 and will travel to No. 6 seed San Ynez in Division 4, while No. 13 seed Leuzinger has a good chance of upsetting No. 4 Verdugo Hills in D-4.
