Seventy-eight year old Mary Nelson-Rogers had always done what was necessary to keep her home and hopefully leave it to her children after she had passed away, but those dreams were dashed when Sacramento County ordered 20 armed Sheriffs and two local police to evict the elderly woman on Jan. 10th.
This is a complicated case that has concluded in tragedy as Nelson Rogers’ home since 1975 has been acquired by county officials using eminent domain although her name still appears as the recorded owner of the property.
Her son Thomas Jayaton believes there is proof that the county counsel along with County Supervisor Chair Patrick Kennedy and Sheriff Jim Cooper were nefarious in their duty and desire to evict Nelson-Rogers.
Jayaton tried all of the legal means necessary, and also tried contacting the local community newspaper by reaching out to Sacramento Observer Publisher Larry Lee, but after Lee spoke with Jayton and pledged to probe the matter, nothing was ever done and Lee never responded to the citizen calls again.
The son is also convinced that the all white Board of Supervisors and the Black Sheriff signed off on the order to execute the eviction and approve his mother’s removal.
According to Thomas, the County used California real estate brokers who brought two U-haul trucks to the home in Sacramento and removed all of the elderly woman’s property and placed it in storage without her knowing where the storage facility was located.
The notice to vacate was initiated by McCarthy & Holthus LLP, LP Quality Loan Service Corporation, but oddly Attorney Melissa Coutts filed the unlawful detainer complaints in the name of JP Morgan Chase Bank, according to Jayaton.
Jayaton also alleges another company 24 Asset Management is involved and that Jacob Fielder is responsible for changing the locks and putting his mother out.
“I am really disturbed and concerned about how this happened and I am wondering how many other elderly people of color are losing their homes in this manner. Something has to be done about this,” urged Jayaton
