Road ends for La Jolla Country Day in Southern California football regionals

Date:

La Jolla Country Day School’s drive toward a state football title ended Dec. 2 with a 41-21 road loss to Banning High of Wilmington in the CIF Southern California Regional Division 5-A championship game.

Banning controlled the game with a relentless rushing attack, and the offense scored on all seven of its possessions.

The Pilots (9-6) won their first Southern California regional championship and advanced to the state finals next weekend.

The Banning defense was up to the task of containing the Torreys’ vaunted offense, which scored 73 points in a rout of Grossmont in the San Diego Section Division III championship game Nov. 25.
