CONGRESSWOMAN MAXINE WATERS HELPS OPEN LA METRO’S RAIL TO RAIL TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR IN SOUTH LOS ANGELES
WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43), Ranking Member of the Committee on Financial Services, released the following statement in response to the opening of LA Metro’s Rail to Rail Active Transportation Corridor in South Los Angeles.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters helped open LA Metro’s Rail to Rail Active Transportation Corridor in South Los Angeles, which allows cyclists, pedestrians, and skaters to connect with Metro’s A, J, and K lines. “I congratulate Metro for this Rail to Rail Corridor and for all of Metro’s efforts to expand access to affordable public transportation options in South Los Angeles and throughout Los Angeles County”, said the Congresswoman. “I am especially proud that this new Rail to Rail Corridor connects with the K Line that serves my District”, she continued.
The K Line – which was previously known as the Crenshaw/LAX Corridor – runs through the 43rd District in Inglewood, Westchester, South Los Angeles, and down Aviation Blvd. to the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) People Mover station at 96th Street and the Aviation/LAX station on the Green, or “C” line at Century Blvd.
“I worked very hard to ensure Federal support for the K Line, which resulted in $233 million in Federal grants and a $546 million loan, and I was proud to see this line finally coming to fruition. I also supported LA Metro’s applications for several other Federal grants, especially those for a Leimert Park station on the K Line and the heavily used Willowbrook/Rosa Parks station on the Blue and Green lines,” said Congresswoman Waters. “The residents & businesses along these vital Metro routes had been looking forward to the expanded access they now have to
work, school, shopping, and entertainment in our community. I’m grateful to Marqueece Harris-Dawson, President of the Los Angeles City Council, Curren Price, Los Angeles 9th District Councilperson, and the entire Los Angeles City Council for their efforts to support this project.”
